George Q. Daley, MD, PhD

George Q. Daley, MD, PhD, has been named associate chief of pediatric hematology/oncology at Children's Hospital Boston and director of Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation Program at Dana-Farber/Children's Hospital Cancer Care.

Dr. Daley will hold the Samuel E. Lux IV Chair in Hematology. He is currently associate professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School and the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Children's Hospital Boston. He is an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Associate Director of Children's Stem Cell Program, a member of the Executive Committee of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, and immediate past-President of the International Society for Stem Cell Research. Dr. Daley has made seminal observations in several areas, notably in basic research in chronic myelogenous leukemia and in derivation of disease-specific induced pluripotent stem cells.

As Associate Chief and Director, Dr. Daley will oversee all aspects of our transplantation program, providing expert scientific direction regarding basic, translational and clinical research to the outstanding clinical team. A world-renowned stem cell researcher, he will work with Leslie Lehmann, MD, clinical director of Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation, to advance the program's translational and clinical research efforts. Initial protocols will focus on genetic therapies for blood diseases and transplantation options for young patients with genetic conditions such as Fanconi anemia and sickle cell disease. Future efforts will apply key biological research discoveries.
